RISK MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES FOR SMES
Modern business conditions require timely responses to risks, the adaptation of business processes, and the substantiated selection of risk management strategies to ensure operational stability and enhance competitiveness. The dairy processing industry plays a significant role in ensuring the state’s food security, as enterprises within the sector produce essential daily consumer goods and contribute to the stability of the domestic food market. The study analyzes the main development trends of Ukraine’s dairy processing industry, including shortages of raw milk supply, the seasonal nature of its availability, enterprises’ dependence on suppliers, a high level of competition, rising prices for raw materials and energy resources, the complexity of technological processes, and the intensification of integration processes and business consolidation. The study establishes that the activities of enterprises in the industry are associated with a significant number of internal and external risks, which vary in their degree of impact depending on the size of the enterprise, its resource availability, and growth potential. The main groups of risks faced by dairy processing enterprises have been identified. Particular attention is paid to internal risks that can be influenced and managed by the enterprise. The expediency of differentiating risks by enterprise size and growth potential has been substantiated. The paper presents the main risk management strategies applied by dairy processing enterprises, including risk avoidance, risk minimization, risk transfer, risk acceptance, business diversification, flexible planning and adaptation, innovation strategy, and partnership and cooperation strategy. The specific features of implementing these strategies at small, medium-sized, and large enterprises in the industry have been identified. It has been proven that risk management should be integrated into enterprise business processes and implemented at all management levels.
