THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR AS A FACTOR OF UKRAINE’S ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL SECURITY UNDER GLOBALIZATION CHALLENGES
The article examines the role of the agricultural sector as a key factor in ensuring Ukraine’s economic and social security under conditions of globalization and wartime challenges. It substantiates that the agricultural sector is a strategic element of national security that ensures food self-sufficiency, currency stability, employment, and social resilience. The paper highlights the impact of globalization, war, climate change, and external economic risks on the functioning of Ukraine’s agricultural market and its potential for post-war economic recovery.
The purpose of the study is to substantiate the role of the agricultural sector in forming the economic and social security of the state and to identify the links between agricultural development, food security, employment, and socio-economic stability in a globalized environment. The methodological basis includes a systemic approach, methods of analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, and economic-statistical comparison. These tools made it possible to analyse current trends in the agricultural sector of Ukraine and to assess its influence on food security, employment, and human capital development.
The results show that the agricultural sector generates around 10% of GDP and over 40% of foreign exchange earnings, remaining a stabilizer of the national economy even during the war. The main threats to its economic security include land loss, infrastructure destruction, production cost growth, labour shortages, and energy dependence. Strengthening social security in the agricultural sector is linked to the implementation of corporate social responsibility principles, human capital investment, and rural community development. The study concludes that in the context of globalization, the agricultural sector acts as both an economic and social stabilizer of the state. Its sustainable development, supported by effective public policy, market diversification, and green and digital transformation, is essential for ensuring Ukraine’s long-term economic and social security.
Keywords: agricultural sector, economic security, social security, globalization, food security, sustainable development, corporate social responsibility, international trade.
