ENTERPRISE INVESTMENT ACTIVITY AND INVESTMENT PERFORMANCE: THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL DISCREPANCIES AND INTERRELATIONSHIP

The article substantiates the conceptual foundations for distinguishing between the concepts of investment activity and investment performance within the framework of an enterprise’s investment development system. Based on a critical analysis of domestic and international scholarly approaches, it is determined that the lack of a unified interpretation of these categories leads to methodological uncertainty in the assessment of investment processes. The essence of the concepts is clarified: investment activity is defined as a purposeful, systematically organized process of forming, allocating, and utilizing investment resources aimed at achieving the strategic development goals of an enterprise or the economy as a whole; whereas investment performance is considered an integrated characteristic reflecting the intensity, effectiveness, and dynamism of investment processes, as well as the level of interest, readiness, and capability of economic entities to undertake investment actions. Investment activity primarily reflects the quantitative volumes of investment, which may be complemented by qualitative and strategic aspects such as the selection of priority investment areas, the formation of investment policy, the determination of investment types, and the organization of interaction with investors. Investment performance, in turn, has a more pronounced quantitative dimension, which is reflected in such indicators as total investment volumes, the share of profit allocated to investment, the dynamics of investment flows, as well as various coefficients and indices of investment efficiency. A causal relationship between these categories is substantiated: activity functions as a process, while performance represents the result of its implementation. A generalized framework for the interaction between investment activity and investment performance as elements of an integrated system of enterprise investment development is proposed. The author’s approach to structuring these concepts provides a more precise methodological basis for analyzing investment processes and developing strategies to enhance the investment performance of enterprises.

Keywords: investment activity, investment performance, investment development, enterprise, investment strategy, investment efficiency.
